SUMMARY:Growing Up Black in Easton Through the Decades
DESCRIPTION:Join prominent members of Easton’s Black community for an afternoon of insight\, story-sharing\, and inter-generational conversation! \nPanelists will speak about their experiences growing up in Easton\, from the 1960s to the present\, and the changes they saw in their neighborhoods\, their educational experiences\, and their social lives. All members of the community will have the opportunity to share their own experiences following the panel discussion. \nSpeakers will include: \n\nDr. Karen Britt\, Professor of Business/Economics at Northampton Community College\, an Adjunct Faculty member at Muhlenberg College\, and the founder of Juneteenth Lehigh Valley\nLillian June Robinson\, founder of the oral history project African-American Migration from Cuthbert\, GA to Easton\, PA.\nBill Houston\, former Easton Area School District Administrator and fellow contributor to the oral history project\nJosh Robinson\, President of the NAACP\, Easton Branch #2260\nH. Michael Swint\, semi-retired partner in Swint Hauling & Disposal Services\, LLC\, and former finance director for Greater Shiloh Church.\n\nThis program is part of a larger series of preparing for the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence\, as we continue to grapple with the meanings of democracy\, freedom\, and equality. Join us as we explore our commonalities and celebrate how our differences make us a fuller\, more vibrant community. \nIn the words of Dr. Karen Britt\, “Somewhere in the red\, white\, and blue is you.” \nFree for NCHGS members; $10.00 for non-members. \nThis program is being funded in whole or in part with funding from the Hotel Tax Grant Program through the County of Northampton Department of Community & Economic Development.
