NACC Keynote Lecture: Dr. Yusef Salaam

Dr. Yusef Salaam, a member of “The Exonerated Five,” was falsely convicted in the 1989 Central Park jogger case and spent years in prison before being exonerated in 2002. Since his release, he has become an advocate for criminal justice reform, addressing issues like false confessions, police misconduct, and racial disparities. He authored the bestselling memoir Better, Not Bitter and serves on New York City’s Council for the 9th District. His story has been featured in the documentary The Central Park Five and the Netflix series When They See Us. He has received numerous honors, including an honorary doctorate and the President’s Lifetime Achievement Award.
